How to make a turtleneck pattern from knitwear. Women's turtleneck made of knitwear: pattern with description of cutting and sewing. What measurements are needed

Very often, even after going around more than one shopping center, you may not find the desired item. Maybe the desired shade is not in fashion right now, so you simply can’t find it in stores; maybe you need a special style. Well, the hardest thing is for those whom nature has awarded with a non-standard figure.

Of course, there is a way out - sewing clothes yourself. Many people abandon this idea immediately, and completely in vain. This is your chance to create your own unique wardrobe, in which every item is created specifically for your figure. You can start, for example, with a turtleneck. It is quite simple to sew, even a beginner can handle it.

And how many benefits you will get! Sewing will not take so much time: you could spend exactly the same amount of time on shopping, but whether it would bring results or not is a moot point. You can choose the fabric and color yourself. And, of course, a perfect fit - isn’t that what you need?

Selecting the material

First of all, it should be noted that the turtleneck is sewn from knitwear. It is this fabric - elastic, comfortable to wear, easy to care for - that makes this wardrobe item truly universal. Women, men and children enjoy wearing various knitted products.

If ordinary fabric is a fabric created from two systems of threads intertwined with each other, then knitwear is a “knitted” fabric made from a single thread. The interlacing of loops gives it special characteristics:

  • knitwear almost does not wrinkle;
  • they are elastic, stretch both along and across, respectively, your turtleneck will fit your figure perfectly;
  • “knitted” fabric is pleasant to the touch, it does not restrict movement, therefore it is often used for sewing similar clothes.

When choosing fabric for sewing, keep in mind that to sew a thin sweater with a “neck” you need fabric that stretches well not only in length, but also in width. Be sure to check this before purchasing.

Sew the perfect turtleneck

So, you have selected the fabric and set aside a day or two to create a unique item for yourself. You don't need to waste time searching for patterns: you can simply download them at the end of this page. Now you need to find out what points you need to pay special attention to during the first and subsequent fittings.

  • The degree of fit of the product (maybe the item is still too wide or narrow);
  • Are the shoulder seams positioned correctly?
  • Is the shoulder length correct?
  • Armhole lip. If you do not pay due attention to this parameter, you may later find that the turtleneck is too small under the arm, and it is inconvenient for you to raise your arms;
  • Sleeve fit;
  • Is the width and height of the neckline suitable for you?

If necessary, the seams are transferred after fitting. As you can see, creating a comfortable item of excellent quality is very simple if you use our patterns.

Product care

Once your perfect turtleneck is ready, you'll probably want to keep it for as long as possible. We will tell you how to care for a new product so that it does not lose its original appearance.

First of all, pay special attention to washing: the water temperature should not exceed 30 degrees, the preferred mode is “gentle wash”. It is best, of course, to wash such clothes by hand.

Detergents should be used only soft, delicate ones.

The optimal position for knitted items during drying is horizontal. It is best to store them folded and not on hangers. In the latter case, the thing may simply stretch and lose its shape.

On our website there are few articles devoted to men's clothing tailoring, much less detailed master classes. However, any woman sometimes has to sew men's clothing, not only for her school-age son, but also for an adult man - father or husband. In this article we will talk about just such clothes - a men's turtleneck made of knitted fabric.

Let me make a reservation right away that for high-quality tailoring of a turtleneck, you need not only

Our sewing machine has a very convenient function - selecting the position of the needle during sewing. If you have one, turn it on so that when you finish stitching, the needle is always in the fabric, not above it. When performing square turns on knitted and other stretchable fabrics, this is simply an indispensable option.

All connecting seams of knitted products are made only with the help of an overlocker that has a differential type of lath, in other words, any modern knitted overlocker from 14 thousand rubles.

Processing the connecting seam of a turtleneck collar is also performed only with an overlocker; a stitching machine is even contraindicated in this operation.

Processing the hem of a turtleneck of this model is carried out in two stages, first with an overlocker and then with a flat-stitch machine. But it can be done much simpler. This is discussed in detail in the paid version of the master class.
Also, there you will learn how to make a turtleneck pattern of any size, and of course a detailed photo report with comments about the technology of sewing it.

Well, here is a new photo tutorial on sewing a turtleneck. There have been many requests for MK for men’s turtlenecks, I’ll say right away that for me there are no differences in sewing men’s, women’s or children’s turtlenecks, except that women’s/girls’ ones may have a puff sleeve, gathers on the chest, a pink-floral transfer, and in men's/boy's ones have more calm, restrained tones, straight lines and cut, strict transfers, etc. Although the taste and color, as they say :)
In general, today we are sewing this men’s turtleneck:

And as usual, I’ll say that I’ll take longer to explain how you sew it!
So, let's start with. I sewed a turtleneck for a man size 50 (Head circumference=59cm, Neck circumference=50cm, Stand-neck height=10cm) Pattern based on a T-shirt O*tobre 2005/3 mod.39 (a very successful pattern, I’ve already sewn a lot of T-shirts for my husband using it , sit down properly). The material I have is ribbed with lycra, the color is dark blue.
1. Cut out the front part with a fold, slightly reducing the neckline, as turtlenecks fit closer to the throat. We do it like this:

2. Cut out the back with a fold as usual.
3. We cut out a sleeve x 2 pieces, lengthening it from a T-shirt. For this turtleneck, my measurements are wrist circumference = 20 cm, sleeve length = 60 cm.
- apply the sleeve pattern, pin it with pins, measure down 60 cm at a right angle, draw a line.
- along the same right angle on this line we put a mark in the center, and from this mark we measure 10 cm in each direction (i.e. wrist circumference = 20 cm, divide by 2)
- from the wrist line to the armholes we draw lines on both sides of the sleeve.
ALL! The sleeves are ready!

We cut out the parts with allowances. And here is the result:

4. Now we cut out the stand-up collar. For me, it will be sewn in twice at once (Well, I like these stands on turtlenecks: you don’t need to tuck anything, you just put it on and go. It’s especially convenient for children! You can do it with a lapel, but I think it looks cool even that way.) I measure out the collar -stand like this: OG=59cm - 10cm = 49cm. I cut out a rectangle with dimensions: 49x20cm + seam allowances. I use this piece of knitwear to measure directly on my head how comfortable it will be to wear such a turtleneck; if it’s too loose, you can do something else (as practice shows, it’s not necessary to make it wider, as it will resemble a swing collar!)
This is how we cut out a stand (add allowances accordingly!):

5. Sew the front and back along the shoulder and side seams with an overlocker. I immediately overlock the bottom of the turtleneck. We sew the sleeves into tubes (from the armhole to the wrist) and immediately overlay the bottom of the sleeves. Sew the stand-up collar into a ring.

6. Sew the sleeves into the armholes:

7. Bend the collar in half (the seam remains inside):

8. Attach the collar to the neck with the fold down:

and insert it inside the turtleneck:

Align the seam on the collar to the center of the back:

sew the collar and neckline:

if the collar does not match the size of the neck (a little more or a little less, no big deal! When sewing in, slightly tighten either the collar or the neck).
9. Voila! Everything is ready!
rear view (wrong side!).

A turtleneck is a comfortable and practical type of clothing. It beautifully fits the figure and protects the neck and chest from the winds. It comes with long and short sleeves, casual, business, club, from elegant and practical material. The only condition is that it must stretch, otherwise it will no longer be a turtleneck, but a sweatshirt or blouse, but without buttons.

If you have already mastered the skill of sewing knitwear, then sewing a turtleneck with your own hands will not be very difficult.

Turtleneck pattern

In order to draw a pattern, you will need measurements:

  • Bust
  • Waist circumference
  • Shoulder length
  • Neck circumference
  • Back length to waist (from the 7th vertebra to the waist line)
  • Hip circumference
  • Wrist circumference
  • Sleeve length
  • Product length

The height of the stand is arbitrary.

The knit turtleneck pattern below is suitable for sizes 48-50. (Or build to your own standards). If a smaller size is needed, you need to reduce the armhole line by 0.5 cm, and the side line and sleeve by 1 cm on each side.

You will need a rectangle for the neck separately. It is 0.5-2 cm less than the length of the neck. This must be done so that the neck is well covered. The width is double, since the part will be folded in half.

Allowances - they are not necessary if the fabric stretches well.

Material selection

The fabric for a turtleneck needs stretch. It could be:

  • any types of knitted cotton: cashcorse, ribana, footer, cooler with lycra, interlock;
  • jersey jersey: plain, print, knitted;
  • oil, micro-oil, crystal;
  • guipure stretch

Having a base, you can model it - make an insert of guipure in the neckline area, trimmed barrels made of contrasting fabric, combined sleeves and everything that your imagination suggests.

Sewing the product

Lay out the pattern so that the fabric stretches in width. Then you can achieve a good fit of the product.

Cut without allowances except for the gap for hems of sleeves and hem. If in doubt, make it, cut it out, baste the product and try it on. Transfer all the shortcomings to the drawing, correcting it.

  • Sew shoulder seams.
  • Sew the sleeves to the armhole, aligning the top point of the collar with the seam on the shoulder.
  • Align the line of the bottom of the front and back and use one seam to sew the side seams from the bottom of the product to the bottom of the sleeve.

It is better to sew with a zigzag overlock stitch or directly on an overlocker. If you use a straight seam, it may burst under tension.

  • Fold the bottom of the sleeves and the product and hem it on the cover stitch. Or a three-step zigzag if you don’t have the necessary equipment.
  • The length of the collar must be folded inside out. Pin along the neck line, stretching it slightly. Sew on an overlocker or machine using an overlock stitch.

The turtleneck is ready. Can be worn.

The resulting base is universal. It also produces a pattern for a turtleneck dress. Simply increase the length and/or widen the hips a little. And if you attach the panties pattern, you get a combodress.
