Meet new master class on knitting a beautiful hat from Knitting by Nadine. This women's hat knitted, new model, 2017. When knitting, 2 techniques are used: garter stitch and oblique loops.
For work, take 5 mm knitting needles, 100 g yarn - 240 meters. For this model, one skein is enough.
How to knit a hat for women with a bias stitch pattern
We start with a hollow elastic band and collect in a simple way 127 loops. We knit in turning rows. The hollow elastic band is knitted like this:
1st row: 1 knit, 1 sn. thread before loop, repeat. to the end of the row;
2nd row: 1 knit, 1 sn. thread before loop, repeat. to the end of the row;
3rd row: repeat from 1st row
I knitted 5.5 cm in height, and then I knit one row of ordinary 1 x 1 elastic from the wrong side and from the front row I switch to the pattern - “Diagonal loops”.
1st row (front side): chrome. loop, *skip the first loop, insert the right knitting needle into the second loop (purl) one row below, pull the loop onto the right knitting needle, yarn over, knit two loops of the left knitting needle together, repeat from *, finish knit 1, chrome loop.
2nd row (wrong side): chrome. loop, *P2 together, k1, repeat from *, finish P1, chrome. loop.
When the fabric reaches a height of 14 cm, we begin to cut the loops. We divide the total number of loops into 5 sectors. I got sectors of 27 loops, 24, 26,24,26 loops. Place markers and cut off stitches at the end of each section. The reduction occurs with front side and from the wrong side. For more details, see the video lesson. The first step is to take the main measurement - head circumference. Considering that the pattern tightens the canvas a little, add a couple of centimeters to the result.
The number of loops is calculated using the usual method.
Cast on the loops on the knitting needles and knit an elastic band. 
Having knitted the required length, move on to the pattern. Divide the loops into front (for braids) and purl (for separation). Continue knitting the length required for the height of the hat. 
The next step is to make decreases. In order not to disturb the pattern, you need to decrease the purl loops. In this case, our “braids” will converge. 
When there are no more than 10-12 loops left on the knitting needles, they need to be pulled together. Now all that remains is to make and sew on the pompom. If making this element is difficult, watch the corresponding video or master class.

The sequence of work will be the same. Measurements are taken - head circumference and length of the product. For knitting take
and yarn of appropriate thickness. 
Knit the sample with the selected pattern and calculate the knitting density. Cast on the required number of stitches with knitting needles and knit in the round with an elastic band. Having knitted the required length, move on to the pattern. Knit according to the pattern or take a description that indicates one fragment (rapport).
The first decreases are made on purl stitches, When knitted hat will be almost the right height. Then they continue to decrease on knit stitches, and in the last row you need to knit all the loops in twos. The loops remaining on the knitting needle are pulled together and the thread is secured on the wrong side.

Knit the required height of the hat and begin decreasing as in the classic version. For the baby, you can additionally knit a bottom cap, which is sewn on from the bottom. This is done after the loops on the top are completely closed. The bottom hat is made with stockinette stitch, then sewn to the main one and the product is decorated with braids with a fluffy pompom.

This treatment not only has a decorative effect, it is quite practical - elastic and springy, such an elastic band is suitable for processing the edge of a hat, sweater, jacket or dress.
We use knitting needles to cast on a number of stitches that are a multiple of 5 (in addition to the edge stitches).
Important! Our pattern consists of an odd number of groups of 5 loops. If you decide to knit a product with an even number of “fives”, make a shift by 1 stitch.

It is rather an elastic, well-stretchable fabric, suitable for knitting hats and scarves.

It is slightly different from the 1 x 1 we are used to: in this case we use the “under the eyelet” technique, which makes the knitted fabric more fluffy and elastic. This knitting is suitable for fluffy scarves and snoods.

Hat with classic braids and knitting needles
To knit a hat we will need:
- Yarn (meter 200 m/100 g);
- Circular knitting needles No. 4.
We cast on the loops on the knitting needles. Their number must be a multiple of 12.
For a head circumference of 55-58 cm, it is enough to cast on 84 loops.
Let's connect the loops in a circle and start knitting a 2 by 2 elastic band.
The height of the elastic band can be any. In this case it is 8-9 cm.
Now let's move on to the pattern. We knit 9 knit stitches and 3 purl stitches. Again 9 knits and 3 purls. We knit like this until the end of the row.
Then we knit 2 more rows of the same pattern in the same pattern.
We knit the last 3 knit stitches.
Then we return the loops from the additional needle back to the left needle.
And we knit them. We knit 3 purl stitches (according to the picture). And repeat the weave.
Let's knit a row like this. And then we will complete 3 rows, where we will also alternate 9 knits and 3 purls according to the pattern.
Let's do the overlap. Here we do it a little differently. We remove the first 3 loops of the braid onto an additional knitting needle and leave them at work.
Knit the next 3 stitches. And we return the loops from the additional knitting needle back to the left knitting needle.
We knit them and knit the remaining 3 loops. We knit the next 3 purl loops in the same way.
And knit 3 rows, alternating 9 knit stitches and 3 purl stitches.
We knit approximately 13-15 cm in a braid pattern. We finish with an overlap.
We begin to decrease. In the previous row we do not knit 1 purl. And we knit it together with the first front loop of the braid. Next, we knit the front loops, also leaving one out. We knit it together with the first purl stitch. Then we knit a purl loop. And repeat until the end of the row. That is, we will only have one purl loop left between the braids.
We knit the next row according to the pattern.
Now let's make decreases again. And remove the purl loops completely. To do this, we knit the first front loop together with the purl one.
Now we will execute overlap. Here we will decrease depending on what kind of overlap we are knitting:
- If we leave the loops before work, then:
Knit 1 knit stitch. We knit the next 2 together. We remove 3 loops onto the knitting needle and leave them before work. We knit the next 2 loops together. Next we have knit 1. Return the stitches to the knitting needle and knit the first 2 stitches together and then knit 1 stitch.
- If we leave the loops at work, then:
We remove 3 loops onto the knitting needle and leave them at work. We knit 1 knit stitch. Then 2 together. We return the loops from the additional knitting needle to the left knitting needle. And knit 2 loops together and 1 knit stitch. Then again we knit 2 loops together and 1 knit stitch.
And so we knit the entire row.
We have 6 loops left in our braids.
We continue to decrease.
We knit 2 loops together, then we knit the front one, the front one again and again 2 loops together. Repeat until the end of the row.
We have 4 loops left in each braid. Now we knit 2 loops together along the entire row.
And we tighten the hole with a thread.

We cast on loops in multiples of 5 (except for edge loops). It should be taken into account that the sample contains an odd number of “fives”, and the entire description is focused on this number. If you have an even number of such groups, then you will need to shift by one loop.
Therefore, it is better to first knit a sample (there are 17 loops in the example) to understand the pattern, and then perform it on your product. We remove the first edge without knitting, we knit the last one purl.
Work progress
1. The first and second rows are elastic *l, i*.
2. Having skipped the front stitch, we thread the knitting needle into the hole below the purl loop,
pull out the thread.
3. Yarn over.
4. Knit two loops on the left needle.

When knitting a beautiful elastic band for a headdress, the hat itself can be knitted in any way; here the main decoration is the elastic band. The rim can be made even wider than in the example. The hat does not need to be overloaded with details, so it is better if its fabric is even, then the charm of the elastic itself, which turns out to be voluminous and quite thick, is not lost.
